Shuswap Lakes Hotspot Background:

Since first acquiring property in the Seymour Arm area in the 1998, we have spent as much time here as we can. After months away in another country managing telecommunications projects, nothing seems nicer than spending time in Seymour Arm. Often we have thought to install Internet access at the cabin, but realized a lot of our attraction to Seymour Arm was minimal contact with the outside world as we de-compressed after completing a major project. With the down turn in the economy, and the advances in communications, remote, or work from home, project management is increasing. Some project managers who were working remotely, weren’t spending their time wisely. The usual requirement now is to be “Logged on” during working hours. This tipped the scales from “Isn’t it nice and quiet here” to “I could spend more time here if I had communications.” The microwave sites required to transport Internet for our needs also transports the Internet traffic for the HotSpots. We built a Microwave system several years ago to provide Internet access on the Shuswap lake for 91 of Waterway's Houseboats. Utilizing the same technology, it was a small leap to establishing solar powered Microwave sites to bring Internet to Seymour Arm. We have installed HotSpots in several hotels and motels. This experience was incorporated in the implementation of the Shuswap Lakes HotSpot system.
